About Andrew Walker Ceramics
Hello, I’m Andrew Walker, a ceramic artist and maker based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. My journey with clay has been a creative return: after completing a degree in Textiles Design and spending years working in interior styling, I re-discovered ceramics more than 25 years later. That reconnection with clay opened the door to a whole new chapter, one rooted in the slow, tactile process of hand-building.
Today, I specialise in contemporary stoneware ceramics, focusing on pieces that are both sculptural and functional. My work often reflects the character of our industrial landscapes—strong lines, layered textures, and a balance between bold forms and quiet utility. Each vessel or object is carefully hand-built, starting with rolled slabs of clay that are shaped into forms. I experiment with geometric structures and contrasts, ensuring every piece carries a sense of balance, originality, and purpose.
All of my ceramics are crafted in my two working studio’s at Works 57 (UNIT G4 and G5, 57 Chippinghouse Road, Sheffield, S8 0ZF). The studio is not only a place where I create but also a co-working space for open studio makers and a welcoming space for people who want to learn about ceramics. I run a range of ceramic workshops and classes in Sheffield, with a focus on hand-building techniques such as slab construction, moulding, and draping. These small group sessions are designed to be approachable and enjoyable, whether you’re completely new to clay or looking to deepen your practice.
Whether you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind ceramic sculpture, a gift with character, open studio membership or a creative experience through a class, i’d love to hear from you.
